As of 12/25/2020, the Estwing 26” campers axe is $85 on Amazon. Still number 1 at that price point? I’m hoping this will also be my truck axe/ campfire axe and I live in the suburbs in New England. Thinking about the council tool boy’s axe but I liked the 26-28in

I don’t think it makes a lot of sense at that price point, no. But I’d look for it at Home Depot, Lowe’s, or one of the other places that sells these. I was just in Home Depot the other day and saw one, and you should be able to get it there for the regular price.

I would suggest that superior survival axe is a pulaski, which is an axe mated with a grub hoe in place of the normal flat head poll. The are therefore useful when dealing with roots, et. wherever you are in close contact with the ground and need to do a bit of digging. I first encountered the pulaski when fighting fires years ago and it became my favorite hand tool on the fire line. I have seen fiberglass handled models at Home Depot and I have been using one domestically for several years. In a survival situation, or any circumstance close to that, a pulaski would be an obvious choice

It may not be the best axe for prepping and more of a gimmick, but I thought this was an interesting concept for a multipurpose axe. The AxeSaw by Zippo is an axe, saw, and mallet.
My concern is the durability of the saw attachment as it looks like it’s made of plastic.

Not sure if this is helpful, but at least if you know the names of the parts of an axe you can at least look like you know what you are doing. Full sized image
