Thanks for the research and thought, Jose. I’ll have to check the water softener for a bypass, but I was hoping to use the Berkey regularly, not just in an emergency, so running down a level from the kitchen to the basement where the softener is to get water every time is just … not going to happen in the world in which I am caring for small children. 😉🤷‍♀️ But I really like your solution of simply doing more filter maintenance. That, I can do.

I can relate to the pain leveling experience. When I gave birth, I also had to get stitches for the, er, general area. The nurses would ask how my pain was. I’d just had childbirth! I’d say 2 or 3, but I still took the ibuprofen they offered. 🙂

The puzzles are back out at Dollar Tree – they have some really pretty-looking 350-piece round ones or 100ish-piece rectangular ones. I won’t tell you how many I bought for my kids and all the kids I know… 😊 Book Outlet also has some really nice ones.

Specific reasons weren’t given. I asked (not wanting to buy things I wouldn’t be able to use without a big investment in other tools), and they said no. 🤷‍♀️ I will be careful on the oxygen absorbers! Thank you for the tip. I’m hoping to get all my bags set up and partly sealed (with a gap) before I get into the oxygen absorbers and finish the job. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m also doing more with gifts, where I see something I think my loved ones could use or would like. Since the pandemic, I’ve been trying to send birthday cards to all of my friends and family (where I would have only tried to do my more immediate family and maybe closest friends in normal times). I figure this year is hard and with normal celebrations not able to happen safely, the least I can do is to remind my people that someone cares. This is a prepper forum, so the pile of beans and rice I need to get processed into buckets doesn’t count as abnormal, right?

Just scored liquid hand soap refills, hand dish soap, isopropyl alcohol, and lots of hand sanitizer at a Big Lots. No disinfecting wipes anywhere since I got them randomly at a Dollar Tree a few months ago. I keep looking.

The formula companies are usually trying to send you sample cans of powdered formula, so you can take those and make them your prep, if you aren’t otherwise using formula. Baby powder you’re supposed to avoid anyway these days, but YES to rash cream. I could never bring myself to use a rectal thermometer; if you’re the same, you might look for a good contactless one if you don’t already have one.

Another Midwesterner here. Do you have Big Lots in your area? I was just at one last week and they had hand soap refill jugs, as well as lots of hand sanitizer at reasonable prices.

For those who are considering homeschooling, you might appreciate https://cathyduffyreviews.com/ for reviews of all kinds of curriculum materials from a long-time veteran homeschooling parent. We were planning on homeschooling our new kindergartner, so that’s not changing, ha. Just gathering more resources in case they aren’t as available later. Buying a few more books to have on hand at home in case the library closes down again and we can’t get more. Extra school supplies from the store sales that have now started. That kind of thing. Still working on how we’ll keep the toddler occupied. But overall we’re fortunate – my husband can work from home as long as he needs; my super-part-time job is also from home, and though it’s challenging, I can wrangle the kids full time. I feel deeply for the folks who have more limited options.
