What a great example of how being positive makes your life so much better, even by changing how you feel and your body. For the most part I’ve been positive and upbeat but stress over the past few years has caused me to complain and whine more than I should. I will work on that and definitely read that article you mention. I believe I found it: Cultivating a survival mindset: the Stockdale Paradox, Stoicism, and the importance of partying on -Tim
I will have a great journey! Thank you for your advice, I really like “The future will be what it will be” and that is true. The world will change and be what it will be and I’ll change and grow as I continue and fingers crossed that I will be able to handle whatever life throws at me at various points in my journey. -Tim
Thank you! You have given me some things to research and look into. That side job you did with your friends in college sounds like a smart idea. -Tim
I’d love to pick your brain about more passive income streams that you are aware of that a college student might be able to participate in. What are your thoughts on overcoming over night devaluation of currency besides real estate? -Tim
Finally got around to watching this movie last week and it wasn’t too bad. I related to it as I watched the main characters trying to figure out how to be prepared and what they should and shouldn’t do. If you only have a few minutes to watch, I would watch the three minutes between 26:10 – 29:56. That’s the best part of the movie in my opinion. https://youtu.be/H3KnC7JgHs8?t=1570 -Tim
I’ve heard of this TV series before and have been wanting to watch it, so good to hear other people have enjoyed it. -Tim
My preferred method would be to store a large supply of food rather than going out and hunting in an emergency as well. I thought it would be good to be prepared though and know how to hunt and process an animal in case I ever needed to. You are right about it using a lot of water to clean the meat and yourself. Bambi is my friend as well. -Tim
The part of the article I related to the most was “It can allow a person to practice controlling their body’s response to fear in a safe space.” Similar to my recent topic about desensitizing myself to killing an animal, practicing getting scared or being under stress will help your body to be able to handle a truly scary or stressful situation. -Tim
Thank you for your comment. It’s either another animal eating them or me, so it might as well be me. -Tim
That is helpful and is another way to think about it that I hadn’t before. -Tim
Thank you all for your answers. I’m pretty busy this time of year but joining a class during the winter might be fun. -Tim
DON’T PANIC! – Not just large friendly letters on the cover of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but sounds words of advice for those wishing to be more prepared. If you panic, you get stupid and make stupid choices. When the earthquake or active shooter is going on all around you, Don’t Panic…. and think about what you should do. Take a moment if you can to breathe and gather your thoughts. You got this! -Tim
What are some of the things you learn in Skywarn and can do to contribute to more accurate weather prediction like you say? -Tim
That’s what I’m thinking of doing, asking around and watching a couple times from someone. I do want to jump in, but if I don’t know how to do it, I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep to the advice of Bongohead and use all the parts properly or prevent suffering. But with a teacher, I’m sure I’ll get over it and know what I’m doing. Thank you Dogpatch. -Tim
That is very interesting that you are fine with chickens but not some other animals. Makes sense though if you think about it. Squirrels and other rodents are cuter and fluffier giving us the impression and feeling of not wanting to kill something like that. Bugs, fish, or chickens would be much easier for me than killing a fuzzy rabbit. -Tim
Hola Bongohead! And thank you for your ‘cognitive rosary’, that is a very helpful thing to visualize and repeat as a mantra. I certainly won’t ever kill for pleasure, I will do my best to use any and all parts, and it would affect me if I caused the animal more pain than necessary. So it can be something that I can overcome and practice. -Tim
I would have loved to do some military cadet training. Going through a shared experience with others in the same boat would have expedited my qualms over processing an animal. There’s something about being brave in front of a group and not wanting to be that squeamish person still towards the end of training when everyone else is getting over it. -Tim
Girls clothing usually doesn’t have pockets or if they do you can barely fit a chap stick or a few coins in it. That’s why many of them use purses and other bags for their EDC. Sure glad to have large pockets that I can load up my EDC in so I don’t have to worry and fuss about where to place my bag and to keep an eye on it. Although, sometimes when a girl pulls out something large like a mini umbrella, I am envious and don’t have pockets large enough for something like that. -Tim
Good tip Bill. My mom has a lantern similar to that one. I sometimes have to clean off the soot on the inside of the glass that builds up, but besides that they are easy to use. -Tim
Do a fire sweep of every room of your house, and then along the entire exterior of your house. Say to yourself “If I was a fire, how would I start?“ Are there any power cords that are damaged or being pressed up against by a bed or other piece of furniture? Get a low profile extension cord for those areas. Are candles at least a foot or two from a wall or curtain? How are your smoke detectors? Do you even own a fire extinguisher? Are lighters and matches out of the reach of children? Is there a lot of dry brush and debris around your house that can catch fire? Things like that. -Tim
