I had no major complaints with the site, but these improvements make sense. Most of all, I’m glad the central premise of the site—sensible preparedness advice that’s not paywalled or dominated by partisan politics—doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. That’s why I come here, after all!

Agreed on both counts, great advice. For a little while, I’ve been mulling over the idea of keeping a spare Raspberry Pi with Raspbian, plus a keyboard and display, in a safe location (possibly Faraday shielded). Having not just a backup of my digital files, but an actual (small) backup computer seems like not the worst idea.

I agree with this sentiment. Instead of spending my effort bolstering my communications, I would see this as an opportunity to flesh out my car kit. Also… driving in the dark in rural, unfamiliar areas is nerve-wracking, even without the fear of being unprepared. I hope, J Brooks, you’re cutting yourself a little slack there―of course you want to be more prepared for the future, but also, it makes sense that you’d be on-edge given those circumstances.

Thank you for this. I’ve avoided the prepper community for a long time for fear of unwelcoming attitudes and being a bit of a “black sheep”. It’s one of the reasons why I’m glad to have found The Prepared here―the firm community rules and moderation mean that I feel like I can actually participate comfortably. Also, I applaud communities that actually moderate proactively. Untended gardens tend to grow weeds.

I like this a lot! I started building my own tin-based urban EDC a few months back and quickly ran out of space. Turns out that once you stuff a USB microSD card reader, Maratac Peanut XL lighter, pocket multitool, and jackknife-style lockpicking set into a tin, there’s barely any room for other things. I might need to rethink my strategy. 😅 I really like the idea of keeping immunization records on hand, because that’s something I can never keep track of in my mind. And the Fresnel lens is a cool gizmo―I might get one to store alongside my little portable mirror!
